Shinsamurai (新侍, "new samurai") are a military rank created in Japan in 1992. Enamored with stories of the noble warriors of his land, the Emperor established the rank of Shinsamurai as an elite branch of the military; its roster consists only of the most powerful combatants of the land.

During peacetime and when not on active duty, Shinsamurai wear gray Japanese robes and dogi of various styles. During active combat, they don armor similar to their feudal predecessors.
